Students working on their math and reading skills at a Deerfield Beach after-school program will now have the benefit of 10 new laptop computers, donated by People’s Trust Insurance Company.
Cathedral Community Development Corporation (CCDC) of Deerfield Beach works with 21 third through fifth graders in reading and math each Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. to give them a better foundation for success in school. CCDC reached out to People’s Trust to seek the technology donation.
“Deerfield Beach is our home, and all of us at People’s Trust recognize the importance of giving back to the community,” said Adam Hasner, the company’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. “Cathedral does so much to help local children reach their full potential, and that’s a goal we are proud to embrace and support.”
People’s Trust hopes to expand the CCDC’s mission to reach more area students and provide a more in-depth technological experience. Although the program has been in existence for more than four years, the computers donated by People’s Trust are among the first to be integrated into the non-profit’s educational program.
“The mission of the CCDC is to make a positive impact on communities that are underserved, to be a catalyst in these communities and strengthen families to be self-sustaining,” said the Reverend David Johnson Sr., Executive Director. “We are tremendously thankful to People’s Trust for providing us with technology that is such an important part of children’s learning in today’s digital age.”
In addition to math and reading workbooks provided by CCDC, the new laptops will help the program’s state-certified teachers prepare students for the new Florida Standards Assessment Test in 2015.
