Florida Newsmakers: Larry Robinson

On this week’s “Florida NewsMakers” program, Florida A&M University Interim President Larry Robinson sits down with Sachs Media Group’s Trimmel Gomes. Their discussion centers on the university’s famed Marching 100 band, focusing on Robinson’s decision to lift a suspension of the band following the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion in 2011. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the Champion family. Our decision was based upon what we think was in the best interest of the entire FAMU family, which includes our students primarily, the parents, stakeholders and alumni,” Robinson tells Gomes. “We just thought we had things in place to ensure a more safe environment for the students in the band, as well as other student organizations on the campus.” Robinson addresses the Marching 100, FAMU’s academic achievements and more on “Florida NewsMakers.”
